What is a Permanent Account Number (PAN)?
A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Income Tax Department of India to individuals, companies, firms, and other entities for tax purposes. The PAN number is required for a wide range of financial transactions, including opening a bank account, buying or selling property, applying for a loan, and filing tax returns. It also helps in tracking the tax compliance of the taxpayer and detecting any tax evasion or fraud.
